Yin Yoga Deconstructed - The Deep Stretch with Becky Byrns

Saturday 2/18/2012,  2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Yin yoga is a type of yoga used to stretch the connective tissue of the body. Primary connective tissues include the hips, thighs and lower spinal area. These types of tissues do not stretch the muscles (as in the yang form of yoga) but they stretch and exercise the bone and joints areas of the body. This type of asana practice is beneficial to a wide variety of people. This workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of a successful yin yoga practice as well as offering adjustment options to help you move deeper into the poses. We will learn the basic yin asana names and finish our workshop with a long yin practice that will deepen and soften the body while at the same time calming the mind, leaving you feeling rested and relaxed. Cost of this workshop is $25. Sign up here.

New! All Levels Ashtanga Class with Becky Donaldson on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:30 am and Thursdays from 4:00-5:15 pm!

Ashtanga Yoga literally means eight limb union.  The eight limbs of  yoga -Yama (ethical disciplines), Niyama (self observation), Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (a state of joy and bliss) -are nourished through regular practice.

Ashtanga yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures- which aligns the body, lengthens and strengthens the spine, and detoxifies the muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. The postures can be challenging but the breath will guide you. The room is heated 85-90 degrees. Sign up here.
